Editing project
Trimming your clip
In this section, we’ll walk through how to move around the timeline and trim your footage exactly the way you want.
Moving Around the Timeline
At the bottom of the editor, you’ll see a blue bar — this is your timeline. It shows the full length of your clip, along with the current playback speed.
Zooming in and out of the timeline
Use the zoom slider next to the magnification icons to zoom in or out.
To scroll through your clip, hover your cursor over the timeline and:
-
Swipe on your trackpad, or
-
Use your mouse’s scroll wheel or scrollbar
This makes it easy to jump to any moment in your recording
Slicing Your Clip
If you want to remove a section or split your video into parts, you’ll use the scissor tool button.
You can turn it on by:
Clicking the scissors icon, or
Pressing Ctrl + S on your keyboard
Once activated, click anywhere on the timeline to split the clip at that exact point.
To remove a section you don’t need:
-
Left-click on it and press Delete on your keyboard or
-
Left click on it and press the remove button on the panel on the right side.
Tip: move your cursor over the point you want to split, press Ctrl + S on your keyboard and the clip will be split at that point.
Fine-Tuning the Length (Trimming Without Cutting)
You don’t always need to split the clip to adjust it.
To shorten or extend the beginning or end:
Click and hold the edge of the clip
Drag it left or right to adjust the length
Every trim you make appears on the timeline as a small marker with a scissors icon. If you change your mind, just click it to undo that trim.
